| About Piper Bell Damian Piper Bell has been playing the Great Highland Bagpipes since 1975, taught by Pipe Major Larry Georgeston of the Argyll and Southern Higlanders. His intention is to perform music to suit your special occasion to highest possible level. Damian has played for many pipe bands in his time, Stirling & District, Lochaber Pipe Band, Fort Augustus Abbey School Pipes & Drums (affiliated to the Queens Own Regiment), Strathclyde and Glasgow Universities Officers Training Corps Pipes and Drums and Liberton Pipe Band. Other bands Damian sometimes plays for are Waltham Forrest, Southern Highlanders and the Pride of Murray. Lately he has been playing with Reading Scottish a Grade 3/4 Pipe Band based in Berkshire who competed at the Worlds in 2010 and in 2011. He has been involved in Trooping the Colour for Princess Margaret in Glasgow, The Edinburgh Military Tattoo and a regular performer at the Basel Military Tattoo in Switzerland. Also playing at the Cenotaph for Remembrance Day. Damian is a member of the Musicians Union and is insured for all public performances. For private hire, Damian can wear a number of different outfits to suit the occasion. His number 1 outfit is wearing the Cameron Tartan and the Ostrich Feather Bonnet He can also wear traditional tweed jacket for more casual ceremonies. Please state your requirements. Fluent speaker of French and Spanish with enough German and Italian to get by, Piper Bell often liaises with the local dignitaries and pipe bands to organise accommodation, where the band has to be and what the band is playing and can explain the traditions of piping to foreign audiences. He is also able to recite poetry from Burns - especially the Address to the Haggis for Burns Suppers. Music can be chosen by the client to suit their tastes. At one recent wedding the Bride requested a rendition of Last of the Mohicans. This is not a traditional wedding tune but Piper Bell obliged - not realising that it was for the Bridegroom who thoroughly loved it. Able to mix Marches, Strathspeys and Reels with Hornpipes for traditional occasions, equally able to give a rendition of Happy Birthday or Ode to Joy - given enough notice no tune is too difficult. Damian is willing to play anywhere in France, Switzerland or Germany at short notice but as the photo gallery show quite happy to go to China or further afield if required. |
